DISABILITY & REHABILITATION

A Disability Is Not the End of a Life. The Absence of Support Is.

DIHAN Foundation delivers disability documentation, rehabilitation support, assistive care, and long-term welfare programmes across Bangladesh for July 2024 survivors, children with disabilities, and underserved rural communities. We believe disability should never define a person's future. Exclusion should.

The Hidden Majority

The Scale of Disability in Bangladesh

More than 16 million people in Bangladesh live with some form of disability, yet millions remain excluded from education, employment, healthcare, transportation, and community life. For many families, disability creates a cycle of poverty, isolation, and lost opportunity that can continue across generations.

In rural communities, access to rehabilitation services, assistive devices, and specialist care remains extremely limited. Many people have never received a professional assessment or been informed that support exists. Disability is often treated as a personal tragedy rather than a rights issue.

The events of July 2024 intensified this crisis. Hundreds of young people acquired permanent disabilities, including blindness, limb loss, spinal injuries, and chronic pain conditions. Many continue to face life-changing challenges without access to adequate rehabilitation or long-term support.

Survivor Story
Survivor Story

"He Started Talking About the Business Again."

He was 24 years old and worked in a garment factory in Dhaka, sending money home every month to support his family. He dreamed of opening a small business one day.

In July 2024, he suffered a spinal injury that changed everything. He survived, but he has not walked since.

Returning to his village meant losing not only his income but also his independence, his routine, and his sense of purpose. Without rehabilitation services, assistive devices, or specialist support, he began to believe his future had ended.

Through DIHAN Foundation's rehabilitation and psychosocial support programmes, he was connected to medical referrals, welfare assistance, and peer networks. Today, he has started speaking about his business idea again — not as something he lost, but as something he might still build.
